About

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Michaela Bayona, and I am an MLIS student at the University of Washington. I am in my second year of the online program, hoping to graduate in Spring 2025. My interest in archival work stemmed from too many viewings of National Treasure (2004) and The Mummy (1990) as a young child. Plus I really enjoy the smell of old books and documents.

I took LIS 505: Archival Services in Spring 2024, which only further inspired me to pursue a career in archives. Currently, I am also enrolled in LIS 506: Introduction to Digital Preservation as well, to gain a basis for the future of the field. My goal is to work in a university archive or as a subject librarian; at this time I am on track to achieve this goal, which was only further accelerated by the opportunity to do an internship with California State University–Dominguez Hills at the Gerth Archives.

This is my second directed fieldwork experience, having completed an internship with the University Library at CSU-Long Beach. I'm hoping that working with the Gerth Archives will give me the experience and understanding I need as I decide which path is correct for me. A link to my artifact repository for CSULB can be found in the menu above.

This website acts as a repository of my experience, and will eventually serve as part of my Portfolio work. Documentation can be found under the “Artifacts” tab, along with my personal reflections on this experience.

While I still have more to learn, I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with CSUDH and further pursue my passions.
